The Great Jelling Beast of Jutland, dates to between 965-985 AD .It was commissioned by King Harald “Blue Tooth”, of Denmark, and dedicated to the memory of his parents. It is in the Mammen style and depicts a Lion being entwined with a Serpent. The floral decoration is acanthus leaf, popular at this time in Western Art.
