Sea of Lindisfarne Brooch

Knot work derived from St Luke’s Gospel, Book of Lindisfarne, 8th Century CE. The manuscript was commissioned by Bishop Eadfrith and possibly written by the Bishop himself. The Book of Lindisfarne was made in  honor of Saint Cuthburt of Lindisfarne. The source of the knot work is the gospels of St Luke, folio 138b and I have adapted it to jewellery with the help of George Bain’s seminal book on Celtic Art.
Weight: 31.8 g. Sterling Silver.
Colour: Green, Blue, or Eye Effect Amber.
