Lagore Spiral Brooch

Lagore Spiral Brooch

I have recreated this beautiful spiral design, cut from sheet silver rather than my usual method of wax carving. This design is from a rare archaeological find at the Lagore Crannog site in Co Meath, Ireland. It is a Saxon disk brooch design adopted by an Irish metal smith, dating from the 6th Century CE. Circular brooches fastened by pins are uncommon during this period in Ireland.

Each piece is individually hand cut and shaped, 3.5cm in diameter, 16.4g approx.
