Dalraida Dogs Necklace
The “Dalraida Dogs” is from the Book of Kells, Ireland, 9th century CE. In this design we find three dogs chasing each other. The design can be found in the Book of Kells F29R, St Matthew I: liber Generationis “Christ’s Family Tree”. So it’s interesting that in this beautiful title page, that refers to the lineage of Jesus, the monks have included the very symbol of the Great Kingdom of Dalriada, the three running dogs. This Kingdom ruled over Ulster and the Western Lands of Scotland.
This design is a personal one for Desmond, ad his mother’s surname was McCready, who are descendants of the Dalriada.
