Celtic Eels Pendant
Eels are prolific throughout Irish art of the early medieval period. Certainly the Book of Kells is alive with them. They may represent fertility, or plenty. This design we found in the Book of Kells, Folio 188R Saint Luke’s Gospels: Quoniam (for as much). Interestingly I have never seen this triquetra Eel in any modern works on Celtic Art. A first perhaps?
6.3gms, 2.5cm in diameter, pictured with green enamel eyes.
