This heron head on this letter “J” was inspired by the Hunterston Annular brooch, made in Ireland in the 8th century CE, Ireland. It was originally made for an aristocrat, probably one of the Scottish Dal Raida. The other part of this piece is knot work from the Book of Lindisfarne, St Johns Gospels folio 208.
