The Great Jelling Beast Brooch
The Great Jelling Beast of Jutland, dates to between 965-985 CE. It was commissioned by King Harold “Blue Tooth” of Denmark, and dedicated to the memory of his parents. It is in the Mammen style and depicts a lion being entwined with a serpent. The floral decoration is acanthus leaf, popular at this time in Western Art.
