Soma and Derrynaflan Brooch
The outer circle is from an Irish horse harness from the late 9th century CE. Interestingly, this was found in 1950 at a site in Norway known as Soma Farm.
The central design can be sourced back to the beautiful and complex Derrynaflan paten stand. Detail from this masterpiece of Early Irish churchware is breath taking. I urge all who have a passion for Celtic art to seek out this jewel in the crown of Irish metal work.
