Letter M Brooch
This letter M design is from the Gospels according to St Mark, Book of Lindisfarne, 698CE. Four men are named as the makers of the Lindisfarne Gospels. There is Bishop Eadfrith, who is reputed as having written the manuscript; Bishop Eadbert, who bound it; Billfrith the Anchorite provided the jewels, gold and silver used to decorate the Book’s cover; and Aldred, who added English text under the Latin lines.
The M is decorated with long snouted Northumbrian dogs, which we have given white faces. This brooch is available in blue or green, with the red details. It is 4cm x 3cm, and looks spectacular on a plain dark jacket.
