Gwynedd Tankard Earrings
This design is from the Gwynedd, or Trawsfynydd (try and pronounce that!), Tankard of Wales. Although it looks quite modern, it dates back to the 1st Century CE, and we believe it is among the very best of Celtic art designs. This long oval design was actually the handle of a beer tankard! The tankard was made of bronze, and lined with yew staves attached to a wooden base of turned wood. It would have been a beautiful cup to drink mead for a good night of medieval merrymaking.
The length of the earrings with hook and chain is 6cm.
