Celtic Cross Necklace
This is a cross designed by Desmond Mackenzie-Harris. He took inspiration from a range of 7th-8th century CE sources, including a series of ancient Irish, Pict and Viking crosses engraved into local limestone. They are collectively known as Cross-Slabs. Another source is a cross-carpet page in the Book of Lindisfarne, “St Jerome’s Letter to Pope Damascus” 7th century CE. I incorporated a “Lovers Knot” into the Cross and a new design was born!
This piece is quite large, but still a good size for wearing every day. It is 4.5cm long and 3cm wide. It is available with colour enamel in blue, green or red. This photo of the necklace includes a little Trinity knot bale at the top, but the cross is available with or without this.
